Strike Ending at AT&T Southeast   The historic unfair labor practice strike at AT&T Southeast is ending. With the support of allies and community members,20,000 CWA members stood strong and showed AT&T that they would not back down until the company bargained in good faith. CWA Press Release Wednesday, August 28, 2019 ATLANTA, GA.
At this year’s CWA National Convention, held last month in Las Vegas, NV, a new award was named and given to several New Jersey locals in recognition of their organizing efforts: “The Morton Bahr CWA STRONG Award,” named for CWA President Emeritus Morty Bahr. Several hours later, Convention attendees received the sad news that Morty had passed away at the age of 93.

Frontier I-9 Employment Verification Change Frontier has implemented a new electronic Form I-9 system to generate and store the I-9 for every employee.  We are doing a Company-wide initiative that will require all employees hired/rehired after November 6, 1986 but before March 31, 2018 to complete a new electronic Form I-9.

MRF Increase At the 2019 CWA Convention in Las Vegas last week, CWA's Defense Fund Oversight Committee and the Executive Board jointly and unanimously agreed to increase the payout level to assist striking workers, effective August 1. The new pay rate is $300 per week for striking members, starting on the 15th day of a strike, an increase from $200.
Exempt Day Win  Attached is the Arbitration decision regarding Verizon charging full exempt days for a partial day of absence.   Arbitrator Sands sustained the exempt day grievance under the Local 1105 Commercial Bargaining Unit Contract.  Specifically, he held that exempt days going forward can only apply to partial day absences for which a step is involved.
Why We Wear Red Gerry Horgan It has been a custom since 1989 for the members of the CWA to show their solidarity by wearing red on Thursdays, but why and where did this day of red begin? Well for one, it represents the color of blood that was lost in the strife to gain fair and equal rights for workers throughout the years.
